I am currently a first-year Master of Philosophy student in Sociology at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). My primary research interests lie at the intersection of sports and social minorities, with a particular focus on disability and race. For my undergraduate thesis, I examined how disabled athletes in Hong Kong symbolically construct and negotiate their seemingly contradictory identities—as both “athletic” and “disabled”—throughout their life course, adopting a qualitative approach to capture their lived experiences.
In addition to my postgraduate studies, I am working as a student research assistant at the Hong Kong Institute of Asia-Pacific Studies (HKIAPS). This role has broadened my research scope into media and cultural studies, where I have explored topics such as TikTok perception on Reddit, digital nationalism in Chinese-dominated news outlets, and the social construction of gender perceptions on TikTok among Japanese youth.
I completed my Bachelor of Social Science in Sociology (concentrated in Social Research & Liberal Studies) with First Class Honours at CUHK. My training has equipped me with solid qualitative and quantitative research skills, and I am also actively developing expertise in computational methods to analyse social phenomena from new perspectives. This allows me to approach my projects through mixed-method research designs.
Furthermore, I cultivated a multidisciplinary foundation during my undergraduate studies by pursuing four minors: (1) Geography and Resource Management (GRMD), (2) Japanese Language (JASP), (3) Japanese Studies, and (4) Physical Education, Exercise Science, and Health (PESH). These areas have enriched my intellectual understanding of social issues and continue to inform my interdisciplinary approach to research.
