Job Description |
We invite applications for the position of Research Assistant or Junior Research Assistant for a project funded by the Teaching Development and Language Enhancement Grant (Development of Community-engaged Learning) to develop pre-service course training materials for students to understand aging in place in a rural community in Hong Kong. Applicants should have (i) a Bachelor’s degree or above in Sociology, Social Sciences or related discipline from a recognised university; (ii) excellent command in written and spoken English and Cantonese; (iii) the ability to work independently; (iv) attention to detail, sense of responsibility, high motivation, and an interest in sociological study of aging. Those who have former experience assisting in the development of teaching and learning materials or/and working for a social science research project will be an advantage. The appointee will be responsible for (a) supervising and coordinating the development of five life story videos and four micro modules for teaching concepts related to the sociology of aging; (b) developing a survey questionnaire for measuring the impact of project engagement on the attitudes and values of student helpers; (c) developing a focus group guideline and conducting a focus group to collect reflections from student helpers; (d) assisting in a range of social impact initiatives, such as organising a community sharing session and collaborating with non-governmental organisations (NGOs); (e) developing a survey questionnaire to examine the impact of two service-learning field trips on student participants and evaluating the effectiveness of the micro modules; (f) supporting project administration, such as assisting in the drafting of the progress report and final report, and drafting conference/exhibition papers; and (g) performing other related tasks as assigned by the Principal Investigator and Co-supervisor. Appointment will be made on contract basis for five months commencing as soon as possible.
